Thank god I wore comfy clothes to work today!

So, I have been agonizing over the fact that I now live 38.8 miles away from work...as opposed to the 7.1 via only side streets that I was use to for 7 years! The agonizing part is not the daily drive, I am actually enjoying my time to listen to my class lectures repeatedly (I think this stuff is starting to stick!), but the fact that I have to do it TODAY of all days!! Today is the day before Thanksgiving - aka the busiest traffic day of the entire year!!! GREAT! So, I just finished mapping out my route...which takes me through Ontario, Fontucky and Rialto just to get to Colton and hop on the freeway..... am I scared - HELL YEA! But you people who think it is because of the cities I have to get through are mistaken....it is because I can't see for sh*t in the dark on side streets, and I am going a long ways on unknown side streets...look out folks this could make for a wild ride! I could put my glasses on...but those are just for reading and I would have to crash into someone before I could actually see their license plate in the dark! I should have taken a vacation day today! I am anticipating my 40 minute drive to take me anywhere from an hour and 45 minutes to 2 and a half hours....we shall see. I think I am going to go to the vending machine and get a Monster and some Skittles for the ride! This sucks - I sure hope Yucaipa is worth all of this headache!

Sincerely,
Negative Nelly!

Not a whole heck of a lot going on...unless you shop at Ross!

Not too much going on last weekend either - I don't really anticipate too much going on anyhow, but I have my hopes up and I am not being negative about my adventure....I am just looking for something to do other than sit in the house. We had soccer in Rancho on Saturday and went to the movies in Ontario on Sunday...not too much going on in Yucaipa. We did head up to Oak Glen yesterday and walked around a little - cute place. I got some nice pictures of scenery on the way home I will have to post them here soon.

I need to know when is a good time to go to Ross - I have been in there 3 times now and the line goes all the way to the back of the store...am I missing something here - are they really giving things away and I just didn't notice??

We will be home Saturday AND Sunday - all weekend.....I am determined to find something cool to do!! I am thinking we need to find a place to hike around.....if anyone followed this blog I could probably get suggestions....LOL

All I wanted was breakfast!!!

So on Saturday at 9:00am we decided to go find some breakfast - I never thought it was going to be such a task! And I guess it is partially my fault.... A few friends told me that Casa Trejo was AWESOME...so I got on my navigator thing on my phone to find County Line Road (remember, I am still new to town) and we find it...CLOSED! So we end up on the freeway back to Live Oak and over to Yucaipa Blvd. Found another Mexican place...CLOSED!! There is a Denny's maybe...but the parking lot was jam packed - DUH..it is the only friggen place to eat before 11:00 - haha So we head back up Yucaipa Blvd. over to Bonita's - they were OPEN!!!! YAY...AND we had the best food - we loved it! If you like hot stuff...ask for their hot green sauce. It looks kind of like Wasabi in that is is kind of a paste - but it is soooooo hot and sooooo good! It is the little orange place that has outdoor seating only...I have a feeling that we will be getting it to go here shortly as it gets cold.

Nothing else to report this week...it has been pretty low key. Hoping for new adventures this weekend as we have all day Sunday to go exploring - I am thinking Oak Glen sounds nice :o)

Can't say I didn't warn you!

I guess I need to get more people to read my blog - LOL Because sure enough I saw Officer "Nice Nice" giving someone a ticket again this morning! I was being a perfect law abiding citizen driving down Yucaipa Blvd....eating my PB&J breakfast, listening to my microbiology lecture and watching my 40mph speed the whole way and then BAM - right by the freeway he had someone in a little red car pulled over. I sure hope he was as nice to them as he was to me and it did not ruin their day :-D

No news to report on my Yucaipa adventures...I had study session last night and did not get home until after the street lights were on....I was coming up Yucaipa Blvd. at 7:49pm and I literally watched the lights at Danny's Pizza turn off....that just seems way early to me - Oh well, I guess I will have to check that place out on the weekend.

Watch out for officer "nice-nice" by Yucaipa High School!!

Ahhhh...welcome to Yucaipa! It became blaringly obvious to me that when you are traveling 59mph on a street where the speed limit is 40mph, although you thought it was 45mph (hence you were still speeding) there is bound to be a cop with a radar gun under a tree waiting for you to get there. I have to say that the officer was very very nice and even apologized to me for making me cry. Yes...once I saw that he decided to write me a ticket I burst out in tears...without a tissue in sight! And why is it that you think of all of the stuff you should have said to "get out of the ticket" just as you are pulling away with it in you trembling, tear soaked hand? So, what did I do? I called my hubby - I have Microsoft Sync in my car people so I was not breaking the law! And the conversation went a little something like this:

Me: "I just got a ticket from the nicest cop in Yucaipa"
Hubby: "oohhhh, uh huh" (It was a sarcastic uh huh)
Me: "I cried like an idiot"
Hubby: "Where did you get the ticket"
Me: "Right before the High School"
Hubby: "Yea, I saw him there yesterday"

Blah, blah blah.....Now I am thinking that the hubby knows that I go a little too fast on that street, he should have told me that "Officer Nice-Nice" was sitting there ready to zap me with a radar - I think they are in cohoots! hahaha

I can't wait to see what is next!

First weekend

Well, we survived out first weekend - barely! Friday night we decided to see if we could find the Stater Brothers on Bryant - don't laugh..I really didn't know which way it was. So we head down Yucaipa Blvd. and I make the executive decision to go left on Bryant....WRONG! We flip a U-turn at Wildwood Canyon when we figured that the store was definitely not in the canyon and holy smokes!! A coyote runs right out in front of us - we both yelled "COYOTE" and pointed at it like we were 10 years old..haha. Finally made our way to the Stater Brothers...which I might add is about a stone's throw from the house...tee hee. Sunday we decided to bring our German Shepard over and she has now decided that, after 9 years on this earth, she is going to be a whiner - great! "Hey...we are the new neighbors and we would like to irritate the crap out of you with our dog that non-stop cries"..perfect! I hope she gets use to this fast, as I am sure my neighbors are not going to be too happy - especially since the landlord lives directly behind us! We didn't get to see the town too much this weekend unfortunately because we had soccer Saturday and Sunday. I am looking forward to seeing what this town has to offer in the day time.

Oh yea - we are still waiting for the Direct TV to be hooked up so we went to The Big Cheese for Monday Night Football last night - I highly recommend checking the coupon section of your mail PRIOR to ordering 65 bucks worth of hot wings and pizza....since there is a freaking buffet on Monday night that no one let us newbies in on. And on a recommendation from my friend Allison, we tried the Hangar 24 (sp?) Orange Wheat beer - and it was YUMMY!! Good call Al!!!

Lastly - if you are my next door neighbor, I apologize for my family letting my little dog out in the front yard at 6:30am so he can bang on your gate and try to eat your huge grey dog that likes to bark at him - he got a spanking and promised to be nice from now on!

Stay tuned....

You know you are from Yucaipa when...

I found this on the internet today and had to laugh...this my friends is why I call it Mayberry! Although, in all fairness I am going to make the best of my new adventure and pray that the following is not as true as it appears to be...LOL

1. The town is empty at 8 PM.
2. You brag to your friends from other cities about the fact we have a 24 hour jack in the box!
3. You are stuck in traffic on the blvd. because there is either a tractor or they are doing some more construction.
4. You see everyone either at Starbucks or Denny's.
5. People know your town as the one with all the antique stores off the freeway.
6. You can't get a room at any of the motels because people are living in them
7. You have to go somewhere else to have any sort of fun
8. There is either a mobile home park for senior citizens or a church at every corner
9.A "Night on the Town" takes only 11 minutes
10. You have to name six surrounding towns to explain to people where you're from.
11. There is no point in high-school reunions because everyone knows what everyone else is doing anyway.
12. You know what 4-H is.
13. the closet mall is 45 minutes away
14. The town population increases by one-third when the universities go on break
15. You know the sexual history of almost every person in your graduating class.
16. you had a teacher in high school that graduated from YHS
17. your parents know your friends parents and they talk all the time
18. you know a guy that graduated with you that is dating a sophmore at the high school
19. you probably go to crafton
20. the one's who can't wait to leave and go to school, wind up back here in 2 years...They just weren't prepared!!!
21. its hard to find somewhere to drink, smoke, etc.
22. its pretty much just hard to find anything to do at all
23. there is at least one rumor about you even though you live hours away.
24. all the people you come into contact with cannot pronounce Yucaipa. I get "yucapie?" a lot
25. rival schools put up posters with slogans "beat the cow tippers!!" when your going to play them in football.
26. you easily get lost in other cities because they have more than ONE main street.
27.you know who to call to find out what (if anything) is going on
28. Going to the park is considered a family vacation.
29. you explain where you live as "2 hours from anywhere you wanna go"
30. you get 2 options on what to drive, oversied huge lifted retarded looking truck, or extremely terrible body kit unpainted rice rocket
31. you know what Mentone Beach is...And youve hung out there.
32. Myspace is the most exciting thing since the new town hall was built!
33. you see as many people walking/hobbling/wheeling/dragging their way down the boulevard as you see driving.
34. you can name the exact location of every park in town
35. the smell of chicken poop comes and goes with the changing winds
36. You hang out in your garage or on someones front porch.
37. Dirtbikes? or Horses?
38. You are fully aware that the new vons shopping center is the place to be
39. the coolest thing to do is drive on the boulevard to see who you can see.
40. you constantly ask your friends what they want to do, but nobody ever knows what to do, so you end up at a park or Starbucks.

Just moved in

So we just moved in - actually we are still in the process, but our bodies have now been in the house for 4 nights now. Since I work and go to school, I have only been able to see the town in the dark or first thing in the morning. Here is a little bit about how our first week has gone....

Night 1
We finish moving a load which did not include food, got pretty hungry and decided to hit the town - HA it was 8:45pm on a Sunday night....we stopped in at Shorters and they were very nice and welcoming, but it was too late to eat so we had a few drinks and headed next door to Jack in the Box (just about the only place to eat at 9:30)...took that home, ate and went to bed. First night in a new place = I slept for about 3 hours! When I was not awake hearing every bump in the night, I was dreaming about raccoons invading my new place (I came from Alta Loma and feel like I moved to Mayberry in the hills).

Night 2
Pretty much a repeat - tried to go get food too late again..ended up at Vons getting the ingredients for turkey sandwiches - haha. Weird dreams again.

Night 3
Got home from school at 8:00pm to my little dog and my hubby hanging out in the garage. Stopped at Vons and had a little BBQ

Night 4
Got home at 8:00, let the pooch out, unpacked some and waited for the hubby and kids to get home from soccer. Notable quotes: "Joni, can you leave the bathroom door open while I shower, it is kinda scary in a new house" and when asked if he was okay at tuck in time "It is kinda scary" so I got a fake candle out and put it in his room and we called it a night.

Tonight is night 5, we will see what adventure lies ahead. I know one thing, I am not going to try to get dinner at 9:00 pm...the town is asleep! I think I should open a restaurant with the slogan "We are open, even after the street lights are on" tee hee
